Wide Chin-Up

The chin-up with the hands well outside the shoulders, palms facing you; the elbows travel out to the sides instead of in front.

How to do it

Setup

Dead hang, underhand grip well wider than the shoulders, arms straight, shoulders active.

Steps

  1. Start the pull by drawing the blades down.
  2. Pull the chest up to the bar, elbows down and out.
  3. Lower to a full hang with control.

Common mistakes

Wrists bending back under the wide grip: narrow it until they stay straight. Chin craning toward the bar: the chest rises to it. Kipping to finish: strict reps only.

Breathing

Exhale on the pull, inhale lowering.
