Twisting Crunch (Straight Arms)
The twisting crunch with both arms straight, reaching past the outside of the opposite knee; the reach sets the direction of the turn.
How to do it
Setup
On your back, knees bent, feet flat, both arms straight and together above the chest.
Steps
- Curl up and reach both hands past the outside of one knee.
- Let the shoulders turn with the reach.
- Lower through the middle and reach to the other side.
Common mistakes
Reaching with the arms while the shoulders stay flat: the trunk turns. Swinging the arms for momentum: move them only as far as the curl allows. Neck craning toward the knee: keep the head in line with the arms.
Breathing
Exhale on each twist, inhale returning.
