Single-Leg Vertical Jump

From a split stance, jump off the front leg alone, driving the back knee up; land on the same leg.

How to do it

Setup

Split stance, back knee low, the opposite arm forward.

Steps

  1. Drive off the front foot and jump straight up.
  2. Swing the back knee up and the opposite arm overhead.
  3. Land soft on the same front leg and sink back into the split.

Common mistakes

Landing on a straight knee: bend it as the foot touches and sink into the split. Knee drifting inward on the landing leg: keep it over the middle toes. Pushing off the back foot: the front leg does the jump; the back leg only swings.

Breathing

Exhale on the jump, inhale landing.
