Partner-Assisted Pull-Up

The pull-up with the knees bent and a partner behind holding the feet, pushing up only as much as needed to finish each rep.

How to do it

Setup

Hang with an overhand grip a little wider than the shoulders, knees bent, a partner behind you holding your feet.

Steps

  1. Pull as hard as you can while the partner lifts only what is missing.
  2. Bring the chin over the bar.
  3. Lower slowly while the partner lets the feet go down with you.

Common mistakes

Partner doing the lifting: they help only where you stall. Pushing off the partner's hands with the legs: the legs stay relaxed and bent. Dropping from the top: lower under control.

Breathing

Exhale on the pull, inhale lowering.
