Narrow Top Half Pull-Up
Pull-ups with the hands close that cover only the top half of the range, from elbows at about 90° to the chin over the bar; the top of the pull gets extra work.
How to do it
Setup
Hang from the bar with the hands close together overhand, elbows bent to about 90°, the forehead at the bar.
Steps
- Pull the chin over the bar.
- Lower only until the elbows reach about 90°.
- Pull again from there without dropping lower.
Common mistakes
Sinking to straight arms: this one stays in the top half; save full reps for other sets. Only doing top halves: pair them with full-range pull-ups. Wrists bending on the narrow grip: keep them straight.
Breathing
Exhale on the pull, inhale lowering.
