Resistance Band Assisted Single-Arm Pull-Up

The one-arm pull-up with the free hand holding a loop band that hangs from the bar; the band takes part of the load off the working arm.

How to do it

Setup

One hand on the bar overhand, the other gripping a loop band that hangs from the bar beside it, arm straight, body quiet.

Steps

  1. Pull with the bar arm, the band hand helping as little as it can.
  2. Rise until the chin reaches the working hand.
  3. Lower slowly to a full hang; switch arms after the set.

Common mistakes

Pulling mostly with the band arm: the bar arm works; the band only helps. Body spinning away from the bar: brace the trunk and keep the chest facing it. A band so strong nothing is left for the arm: step down to a lighter one.

Breathing

Exhale on the pull, inhale lowering.
