Kneeling Back Rotation

On hands and knees with one hand behind the head, turn the upper back so the elbow points down toward the supporting arm and then up to the ceiling; a rotation drill for the upper back.

How to do it

Setup

On hands and knees, hands under the shoulders and knees under the hips, one hand resting behind the head.

Steps

  1. Turn the elbow down toward the supporting arm.
  2. Rotate the chest open until the elbow points at the ceiling.
  3. Keep the hips still; finish the set, then switch sides.

Common mistakes

Hips shifting to fake the turn: they stay over the knees. Pulling the head with the hand: it only rests there. Rushing the rotation: slow, and turn as far as the upper back allows.

Breathing

Exhale on each rotation.
