45-Degree Twisting Hyperextension
The 45° back extension that turns the chest to one side on the way up, alternating sides; the twist brings the obliques in beside the lower back.
How to do it
Setup
In the 45° bench, pad under the hips, ankles hooked, fingertips at the temples.
Steps
- Rise toward the line, turning the chest to one side as you come up.
- Stop at a straight line, never twisting past a comfortable turn.
- Lower facing the floor again and turn the other way on the next rep.
Common mistakes
Twisting at the bottom under load: rise first, turn on the way up. Yanking the head around with the hands: the chest turns, the neck follows. Arching past the line to add the turn: straight is still the top.
Breathing
Exhale on each twist, inhale through the middle.
