Dynamic Back Stretch

Standing, swing both straight arms from in front of you up overhead and back down; the lats lengthen at the top of every swing.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, feet hip-width, straight arms hanging in front of the thighs.

Steps

  1. Raise the straight arms forward and up until they pass the ears.
  2. Reach tall at the top without arching the back.
  3. Lower them in front again and keep an easy rhythm.

Common mistakes

Ribs flaring as the arms go up: keep them down so the reach comes from the shoulders. Shrugging at the top: shoulders away from the ears. Flinging the arms: a smooth swing, not a throw.

Breathing

Inhale as the arms rise, exhale as they come down.
