Cable Suspension Back Stretch

Seated at a lat pulldown, straight arms holding the bar, let the stack draw the shoulders up; the lats lengthen as in a hang.

How to do it

Setup

Seated at a lat pulldown, thighs under the pads, a wide overhand grip on the bar, arms straight.

Steps

  1. Let the bar draw the arms up until the shoulders rise toward the ears.
  2. Sit tall and let the sides of the back lengthen.
  3. Hold and breathe, then guide the bar up to rest before letting go.

Common mistakes

Too heavy a stack: pick a weight that only draws the arms, never lifts you. Letting go with the stack raised: guide the bar back to rest first. Bending the elbows: keep the arms straight so the lats take the stretch.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
