Sitting Side Reach Stretch

Turn toward a straight leg set out to the side and reach both hands to its foot; the long reach stretches the side of the back.

How to do it

Setup

Seated on the floor, one leg straight out to the side, the other knee bent with the foot drawn in.

Steps

  1. Turn the chest to face the straight leg.
  2. Reach both hands along the leg toward its foot.
  3. Hold and breathe, then switch sides.

Common mistakes

Pulling on the foot to fold deeper: let the arms reach, not haul. Hips rolling back off the floor: sit evenly on both sit bones. Straight knee bending as you reach: keep the leg long and the toes up.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
