Assisted Side Bend

A partner holds both hands and draws the raised arm over as the hips shift away; the whole far side lengthens in a held arc.

How to do it

Setup

Feet together, side-on to a partner; the far arm arched overhead into the partner's hand, the near hand held at waist height.

Steps

  1. The partner draws the top hand over while bracing the lower one.
  2. Let the hips drift away until the far side stretches, and hold.
  3. Come back to upright together, then switch sides.

Common mistakes

Partner yanking the arm: pull slowly and stop at your word. Chest turning to the floor: face forward so the side takes the stretch. Feet sliding apart: keep them together; the hips make the arc.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
