Dumbbell Standing Alternate Vertical Front Raises

The alternating front raise with the bells held upright, thumbs on top, one arm at a time; the neutral grip sets it apart from the knuckles-forward version.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, feet hip-width, bells upright at the sides of the thighs, palms facing in.

Steps

  1. Lift one bell forward to shoulder height, thumb on top.
  2. Hold the top briefly with the bell still upright.
  3. Lower it back beside the thigh, then raise the other.

Common mistakes

Thumb rolling down at the top: keep the bell upright the whole way. Bell drifting across the body: raise it straight ahead of its own shoulder. Lifting past shoulder height: stop where the arm is level with the floor.

Breathing

Exhale on each raise, inhale lowering.
