Dumbbell Standing Driver

The steering-wheel turn with a dumbbell: one hand on the top head, the other under the bottom head, arms straight in front at shoulder height, the bell tilted side to side.

How to do it

Setup

Standing, one dumbbell held upright in front at shoulder height, one hand on the top head and the other under the bottom head.

Steps

  1. Tilt the bell to one side by turning both hands together.
  2. Turn it back through upright and over to the other side.
  3. Keep the arms straight and the bell at shoulder height.

Common mistakes

The bell sinking toward the chest: hold it out at shoulder height. Loosening the grip on the heads as it tilts: keep both hands locked on. Turning the shoulders with the bell: the chest faces forward; only the arms turn.

Breathing

Steady throughout; never held.
