Chest Out Hands Behind (Hold)

A standing chest opener: the straight arms draw back behind the body, the chest lifts and the head rises, held as a stretch for the front of the shoulders.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, feet hip-width, arms hanging by the sides.

Steps

  1. Draw the straight arms back behind the body, palms turned in.
  2. Lift the chest and let the head rise until the front of the shoulders stretches.
  3. Hold and breathe; time it.

Common mistakes

Arching the lower back to lift the chest: ribs down; the upper back does the opening. Shrugging the shoulders up: draw them back and down. Jutting the head forward: let it rise in line with the spine.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
