Chest and Front of Shoulder Stretch

A stick in a wide grip is carried up and behind the head with the elbows drawn back; the chest and the fronts of the shoulders open.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, a stick held overhand in a wide grip in front of the hips.

Steps

  1. Lift the stick past the face and take it behind the head.
  2. Draw the elbows back and hold for a breath, chest up.
  3. Bring the stick back over the head to the front and repeat.

Common mistakes

Pushing the head forward to fit the stick behind it: widen the grip instead. Arching the lower back as the elbows go back: keep the ribs down. Pressing the stick down onto the neck: stop where the chest stretches.

Breathing

Inhale taking the stick back, exhale bringing it forward.
