Superman Chest Stretch

Face down, the chest lifts off the floor as the arms travel from reaching forward to bent back beside the head; a moving stretch that opens the chest while the upper back works.

How to do it

Setup

Face down on the floor, legs long, arms reaching forward on the floor, forehead down.

Steps

  1. Lift the chest and draw the elbows back and down, hands up beside the head.
  2. Squeeze the shoulder blades together at the top.
  3. Reach the arms forward again as the chest lowers.

Common mistakes

Craning the head back: eyes to the floor, neck long. Heaving up with the lower back: lift from the upper back and the shoulder blades. Legs lifting with the chest: they stay long on the floor; this is not the full superman.

Breathing

Exhale on the lift, inhale lowering.
