Bent-Arm Chest Stretch

Forearm flat on a wall at shoulder height, the chest turns away from it; the feet stay put instead of stepping through a doorway.

How to do it

Setup

Side-on to a wall, elbow bent to 90° at shoulder height, forearm and palm flat on the wall, free hand on the hip.

Steps

  1. Keep the forearm pinned to the wall.
  2. Turn the chest slowly away from the wall until the chest and the front of the shoulder stretch.
  3. Hold and breathe, then switch arms.

Common mistakes

Elbow sliding below the shoulder: keep it level, where the chest takes the pull. Turning the hips instead of the chest: feet and hips stay; only the ribs turn. Shoulder rolling forward into the stretch: draw it back and down first.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
