Cable Incline Y Raise with Back Support

Sitting back on an incline bench between two low pulleys, the straight arms sweep the handles up and out into a Y overhead; the pad takes the torso out of it.

How to do it

Setup

Back on an incline bench set between two low pulleys, cables crossed, a handle in each hand at the hips.

Steps

  1. Sweep both straight arms up and out into a Y overhead.
  2. Keep the upper back on the pad and the shoulders down.
  3. Lower the handles to the hips along the same lines.

Common mistakes

Back peeling off the pad to reach higher: the range ends where the back stays. Shrugging into the Y: shoulders away from the ears. Bending the elbows to finish: long arms, or a lighter stack.

Breathing

Exhale sweeping up, inhale lowering.
