Band Y-Raise

The standing Y raise against two bands anchored low in front: the straight arms sweep up past the face into a Y overhead.

How to do it

Setup

Facing two bands anchored low on a rack, a handle in each hand in front of the thighs, arms straight.

Steps

  1. Raise the straight arms forward and up into a Y overhead.
  2. Keep the blades down as the hands pass the face.
  3. Lower along the same path against the bands.

Common mistakes

Shrugging at the top: blades down, or the upper traps take it. Arching the back to get the arms higher: ribs down; the range ends where the ribs stay. Bands too heavy: the Y is a precision move; light and slow.

Breathing

Exhale sweeping up, inhale lowering.
