Bodyweight Standing Oblique Twist

The standing twist with the hands behind the head and the feet wide; the elbows turn with the chest while the hips stay square.

How to do it

Setup

Standing, feet wider than the shoulders, knees soft, fingers laced behind the head, elbows wide.

Steps

  1. Turn the chest and elbows to one side.
  2. Keep the hips and knees facing forward.
  3. Come back to face front, then turn the other way.

Common mistakes

Knees and hips turning along: they face forward; only the ribs turn. Pulling on the head: the hands rest behind it, elbows open. Flinging into the end of the turn: stop each side under control.

Breathing

Exhale on each twist, inhale through the middle.
