Band Warm-Up Shoulder Stretch

A handled band held wide rises from the hips to overhead and eases a little behind the head; the chest and the shoulders warm up.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, a band with handles held wide and taut in front of the hips.

Steps

  1. Raise the band with straight arms to overhead, keeping it taut.
  2. Ease the arms a little behind the head, as far as the shoulders allow.
  3. Bring the band back over and down to the hips.

Common mistakes

Grip too narrow to clear the head: slide the hands wider. Arching the lower back to get the arms back: ribs down, move only the shoulders. Elbows folding at the top: keep the arms long through the whole arc.

Breathing

Inhale raising the band, exhale lowering it.
