Straight Arms Backward Chest Stretch

Standing tall, both straight arms reach back behind the body with the hands apart; the chest and the front of the shoulders open.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, feet hip-width, arms long at the sides, palms facing in.

Steps

  1. Draw the shoulder blades back and down.
  2. Reach both straight arms back behind you until the chest stretches.
  3. Hold and breathe, then lower the arms slowly.

Common mistakes

Elbows softening as the arms go back: lock them long and reach from the shoulders. Leaning forward from the hips: stand tall, the chest leads. Shrugging the shoulders up: keep them low and wide.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
