Wide-Elbow Dumbbell Triceps Press

Lying press with the elbows deliberately flared and the dumbbells lowered to the chest; the long head takes the stretch.

How to do it

Setup

Lying, bells over the chest, elbows DELIBERATELY flared wide.

Steps

  1. Lower the bells to the chest line with the elbows out.
  2. Keep the forearms vertical.
  3. Press up, finishing with the triceps.

Common mistakes

Tucking out of habit: the WIDE flare is this variant's signature. Bells drifting toward the belly: chest line. Overloading: the flare trades load for the long-head angle.

Breathing

Inhale lowering, exhale pressing.
