Weighted Straight Bar Dip
The straight bar dip with a plate hanging from a dip belt; the load makes the lean over the bar harder to control.
How to do it
Setup
Plate on a dip belt, hands on the bar a little wider than the shoulders, arms locked.
Steps
- Lean over the bar and lower as the elbows bend.
- Let the plate hang still between the legs.
- Press up until the arms lock over the bar.
Common mistakes
Adding weight before bodyweight reps are clean: master the plain straight bar dip first. The plate swinging: settle it before each rep. Standing upright under the load: the chest still leans over the bar; drop weight.
Breathing
Inhale lowering, exhale pressing.
