Pike to Cobra

From downward dog's V, swoop the chest down between the hands with the elbows bending, up into a cobra, then back the same way; a push-up that flows between two poses.

How to do it

Setup

Hands shoulder-width, hips up and back, legs long: an inverted V.

Steps

  1. Bend the elbows and swoop the chest forward, low between the hands.
  2. Straighten the arms into a cobra, the hips low.
  3. Bend the elbows again and swoop back up into the V.

Common mistakes

Hips dropping before the chest passes the hands: swoop the chest first. Sagging into the lower back in the cobra: firm the glutes, lift the chest. Elbows flaring wide: keep them close to the ribs.

Breathing

Inhale into the cobra, exhale back to the V.
