Resistance Band Assisted Push-Up

The push-up with looped bands hung from a bar above and passed under the chest; they take some body weight at the bottom, so full-range reps come sooner.

How to do it

Setup

Bands looped over a bar at hip height, the loop under the chest, hands under the shoulders in a high plank.

Steps

  1. Lower the chest into the band's support.
  2. Keep the body in one line as the band takes some weight.
  3. Press back up to straight arms.

Common mistakes

Letting the band hold you at the bottom: it helps, it does not carry. Band slipping toward the belly: set the loop under the chest. Staying on the same thick band: move to a lighter one as reps grow.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale on the press.
