Weighted Front Plank

The forearm plank held with a plate resting across the lower back, which makes the belly work harder to keep the hips from sagging.

How to do it

Setup

Forearm plank, elbows under the shoulders, body in one line, a plate placed flat across the lower back by a partner.

Steps

  1. Brace the belly and squeeze the glutes under the load.
  2. Hold the line from the heels to the head.
  3. Have the plate lifted off before you lower the knees.

Common mistakes

Hips sagging under the plate: brace harder or take a lighter plate. Plate sliding toward the ribs: set it on the lower back, over the hips. Dropping to the knees with the plate on: get it lifted off first.

Breathing

Steady throughout; never held.
