Superman Push-Up

From a long plank with the arms straight past the head, press the floor to lift the body; a long lever for the shoulders and abs.

How to do it

Setup

Face down on the toes, arms straight past the head, palms on the floor shoulder-width.

Steps

  1. Press the palms down to lift the body a little off the floor.
  2. Keep the arms straight and the body one line.
  3. Lower back down under control.

Common mistakes

Lower back sagging at the top: brace the abs and squeeze the glutes before each lift. Hands too far forward for your strength: start them closer and reach further over time. Bending the elbows to cheat the lift: the arms stay straight; the shoulders do the work.

Breathing

Exhale lifting, inhale lowering.
