Pseudo Planche Push-Up

The push-up with the hands turned out beside the lower ribs and the shoulders leaning well forward of the wrists; the lean puts much of the load on the front of the shoulders.

How to do it

Setup

High plank with the hands beside the lower ribs, fingers turned out, shoulders leaning forward past the wrists.

Steps

  1. Keep the forward lean and lower the chest toward the floor.
  2. Elbows travel back along the body, not out.
  3. Press back up without letting the shoulders drift back over the hands.

Common mistakes

Losing the lean on the way up: the shoulders stay in front of the wrists every rep. Wrists hurting in the turned-out position: warm them up and shorten the lean. Hips sagging as the weight shifts forward: brace and squeeze the glutes.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale on the press.
