Stick Shoulder Mobilization in Abduction
An assisted shoulder drill in front of the body: the hand at one hip pushes a stick across, carrying the other straight arm out to the side to shoulder height.
How to do it
Setup
Standing tall, a stick held in front of the hips in both hands, overhand, arms straight.
Steps
- Push the stick across with the lower hand so the other arm rises out to the side.
- Stop at shoulder height, or earlier if the shoulder pinches.
- Bring the arm back down; finish the set, then switch sides.
Common mistakes
Lifting the working arm with its own shoulder: let the stick carry it; the arm stays passive. Shrugging as the arm rises: keep the shoulder down, away from the ear. Bending the working elbow: keep that arm straight so the stick moves it as one lever.
Breathing
Exhale as the arm rises, inhale lowering.
