Stick Shoulder Mobilization in Abduction Behind Back

The stick-assisted abduction done behind the back: the hand at one hip pushes the stick across, carrying the other straight arm out to shoulder height.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, a stick held behind the back at hip height in both hands, arms straight.

Steps

  1. Slide the stick across behind you with one hand so the other arm travels out to the side.
  2. Keep the chest facing forward; the torso does not turn with the stick.
  3. Return to the start and repeat; switch sides after the set.

Common mistakes

Twisting the torso to get the arm higher: square the chest; the range is the shoulder's. Leaning away from the rising arm: stand tall with the weight on both feet. Forcing past a pinch at the top of the shoulder: stop there and work below it.

Breathing

Exhale as the arm rises, inhale lowering.
