Standing Toe Up Hamstring Stretch

Split stance with the front heel down and its toes drawn toward the shin, hinging over that straight leg; the calf and the back of the thigh stretch together.

How to do it

Setup

Standing, one foot a short step ahead on its heel with the toes pulled up, back knee soft, hands on the front thigh.

Steps

  1. Bend the back knee and sit the hips back.
  2. Hinge forward with a flat back, the front toes drawn up, until the calf and thigh stretch.
  3. Hold and breathe, then stand up and switch legs.

Common mistakes

Toes dropping as you fold: keep them pulled toward the shin; they are this variant's calf stretch. Leaning on the front knee: the hands rest on the thigh, never on the joint. Back rounding over the leg: keep it long and stop where the fold would curl it.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
