Standing Leg Up Hamstring Stretch

Standing upright with one straight leg's heel on an incline bench and the hands on the hips; the raised leg's hamstrings stretch without a forward fold.

How to do it

Setup

Facing an incline bench, one heel on it, both legs straight, hands on the hips.

Steps

  1. Stand tall on the supporting leg, its foot pointing forward.
  2. Tip the pelvis forward a little, chest up, until the back of the raised thigh stretches.
  3. Hold and breathe, then lift the heel down and switch legs.

Common mistakes

Heel too high for straight knees: pick a lower point on the bench. Folding over the leg: this version stays upright; the pelvis does the tilting. Standing foot turning out: keep it straight ahead.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
