Standing T Raise
The standing T raise as a shoulder warm-up: straight arms rise out to the sides to shoulder height, the blades squeezing gently together, then lower slowly.
How to do it
Setup
Standing tall, feet hip-width, arms hanging by the sides, palms facing forward.
Steps
- Raise the straight arms out to the sides to shoulder height, a T with the body.
- Squeeze the shoulder blades gently together at the top, shoulders away from the ears.
- Lower under control and go again without swinging.
Common mistakes
Arms rising above shoulder height: the T stops level with the shoulders. Shrugging toward the ears: keep the neck long. Leaning back to lift: keep the ribs stacked over the hips.
Breathing
Exhale on the raise, inhale lowering.
