Cable Side Lying Single-Arm Lateral Raise
Lying on the side along a bench, feet toward a low pulley, the top arm raises the handle from the hip until it points up; the pull is hardest near the top.
How to do it
Setup
Lying on the side along a flat bench, feet toward a low pulley, handle in the top hand at the hip, the lower hand braced on the floor.
Steps
- Raise the top arm, nearly straight, until it points at the ceiling.
- Keep the hips stacked so the body does not roll.
- Lower the handle back to the hip under control.
Common mistakes
Rolling back to help the arm up: hips stacked, only the arm moves. Bending the elbow to shorten the lever: keep it nearly straight. Letting the cable pull the hand down fast: lower as slowly as you raise.
Breathing
Exhale on the raise, inhale lowering.
