Dumbbell Poliquin Lateral Raise

Raised on bent arms, straightened at shoulder height and lowered on straight arms; the long lever makes the way down the hard part.

How to do it

Setup

Standing, feet hip-width, bells hanging at the sides.

Steps

  1. Raise the bells to shoulder height with the elbows bent to about 90°.
  2. Straighten the arms out to the sides at the top.
  3. Lower on straight arms slowly, then bend the elbows for the next rep.

Common mistakes

Bending the arms again on the way down: the straight-arm lowering is the point; keep them long. Dropping fast from the top: take the lowering slower than the raise. Shrugging as the bells rise: blades down, neck long.

Breathing

Exhale on the raise, inhale lowering.
