Standing Shoulder Circling
Big slow circles of both straight arms: forward and up overhead, then out to the sides and down; the whole shoulder moves through its range.
How to do it
Setup
Standing, feet under the hips, arms straight and loose by the sides.
Steps
- Swing both straight arms forward and up overhead.
- Open them out to the sides and down to complete the circle.
- Circle slowly, then reverse the direction.
Common mistakes
Bending the elbows: long arms draw the big circle. Shrugging as the arms go up: shoulders stay down, neck long. Arching the back to reach overhead: ribs down; the arms go only as high as the shoulders allow.
Breathing
Inhale as the arms rise, exhale as they come down.
