Sitting Sumo Twist Stretch

Sitting deep in a wide sumo squat, one hand presses inside the knee and the other arm reaches straight up as the chest turns open; held, then the other side.

How to do it

Setup

Deep wide squat, toes turned out, heels down, hands together in front of the chest.

Steps

  1. Place one hand inside the same-side knee and press it out.
  2. Reach the other arm straight up and turn the chest toward it.
  3. Hold and breathe, then bring the hands together and switch sides.

Common mistakes

Heels lifting in the deep squat: widen the stance or sit a little higher. Rounding the back: lift the chest before turning. Knee caving in under the hand: press it out over the toes.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
