Extended Side Angle Yoga Pose

A wide lunge with the front forearm on the thigh or the hand on the floor and the top arm reaching over the ear, one long line from the back heel to the fingertips; held for time.

How to do it

Setup

Feet wide apart, front foot turned out, back foot slightly in, front knee bent over the ankle.

Steps

  1. Lower the front forearm to the thigh, or the hand to the floor behind the front foot.
  2. Reach the top arm over the ear, turning the chest toward the ceiling, and hold.
  3. Press into the feet to come up, then switch sides.

Common mistakes

Front knee falling inward: keep it over the middle toes. Leaning the weight onto the lower hand: the legs carry you, the hand only rests. Back heel lifting: press its outer edge down to keep the long line.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
