Single-Leg Stand

Stand on one leg with the other knee lifted to hip height and hold still; a balance drill for the ankle and the hip.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, hands at the sides, eyes on a fixed point ahead.

Steps

  1. Lift one knee to hip height.
  2. Hold still, the standing knee soft and the hips level.
  3. Lower the foot and switch legs.

Common mistakes

Standing hip swinging out to the side: the pelvis stays level. Locking the standing knee: keep a soft bend. Staring at the floor: fix the eyes on a point ahead.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
