Side Lying Leg Raise
Lying on your side, lift the straight top leg and lower it; with nothing but the leg's weight, it is the plainest hip abduction there is.
How to do it
Setup
Lying on one side, the lower arm under the head, the top hand on the floor in front, legs straight and stacked.
Steps
- Lift the top leg as high as the hips stay stacked.
- Pause at the top, knee straight.
- Lower it slowly without resting; finish the side, switch.
Common mistakes
Swinging the leg up and letting it drop: slow on both halves. Top hip rolling back: stack the hips and keep them still. Letting the leg drift forward: it rises in line with the body.
Breathing
Exhale lifting, inhale lowering.
