Seated Straight-Leg Calf Stretch

Sitting with the legs straight, the hand takes the toes of one foot and draws them back; the calf and the back of the thigh stretch.

How to do it

Setup

Sitting tall on the floor, legs straight in front, toes pointing up.

Steps

  1. Hinge forward from the hips and take hold of the toes of one foot.
  2. Draw them back toward you until the calf stretches, knee straight.
  3. Hold and breathe, then switch legs.

Common mistakes

Rounding the back to reach the toes: loop a towel round the foot instead. Knee bending as you pull: it stays straight on the floor. Pulling on the toes alone: draw the whole ball of the foot back.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
