Rowing Boat Yoga Pose

Seated with the legs straight, the hands row in circles, folding forward with the fists reaching toward the feet and leaning back as they return to the shoulders; counted in reps.

How to do it

Setup

Seated on the floor, legs straight and together, hands in loose fists in front of the chest as if holding oars.

Steps

  1. Fold forward from the hips, pushing the fists out toward the feet.
  2. Lean back, drawing the fists up the sides of the body to the shoulders.
  3. Keep the circle smooth, then row the other way for the same count.

Common mistakes

Bending the knees to reach forward: keep the legs straight and reach only as far as is comfortable. Leaning back so far the feet lift: stop while the legs stay down. Jerking through the circle: row smoothly, with the breath.

Breathing

Exhale folding forward, inhale leaning back.
