Push-Up in Child Pose
A push-up with the hips kept back over the heels: from the child's pose the head lowers toward the floor in front of the hands and presses back up, loading the shoulders more than the chest.
How to do it
Setup
Kneeling with the hips back over the heels, hands on the floor a forearm's length in front of the knees, arms straight.
Steps
- Bend the elbows and lower the head toward the floor just in front of the hands.
- Keep the hips back over the heels the whole time.
- Press back up to straight arms.
Common mistakes
Hips drifting forward into a normal push-up: keep them over the heels; the angle is the exercise. Elbows flaring wide: keep them close to the sides. Dropping the head onto the floor: stop just short and press.
Breathing
Inhale lowering, exhale pressing.
