Kipping Handstand Push-Up
The wall handstand push-up with a kip: from a tuck at the bottom, the legs kick up hard and carry the press past its hardest part.
How to do it
Setup
Kicked up to a handstand against a wall, hands just wider than the shoulders, a mat under the head.
Steps
- Lower until the head touches the mat, then tuck the knees toward the chest.
- Kick the legs straight up and press at the same moment.
- Finish on locked arms, heels back on the wall.
Common mistakes
Bouncing the head off the floor for momentum: touch lightly; the kip comes from the hips. Pressing after the kick has died: time the press with the leg drive. Kipping before strict reps are solid: build the strict handstand push-up first.
Breathing
Inhale down, exhale on the kick and press.
