Pull-Up (Neutral Grip)

The pull-up on parallel handles with the palms facing each other; the neutral grip is kinder to the wrists and elbows and brings the brachialis in.

How to do it

Setup

Hang from parallel handles a little wider than the shoulders, palms facing each other, arms straight.

Steps

  1. Draw the shoulder blades down to start the pull.
  2. Pull until the chin clears the handles, elbows close to the body.
  3. Lower to straight arms with control.

Common mistakes

Elbows flaring out on the handles: they travel down beside the ribs. Kicking the legs to finish: hang quiet and pull strict. Stopping short of a full hang: the stretch at the bottom counts.

Breathing

Exhale on the pull, inhale on the way down.
