Pull-Up with Bent Knee between Chairs

A pull-up at home under a stick laid across two chair backs, knees bent and feet flat; the body starts nearly upright, so it is a steep row that rehearses the pull-up.

How to do it

Setup

A sturdy stick across the backs of two heavy chairs, sitting under it with the arms straight, knees bent and feet flat, overhand grip.

Steps

  1. Pull the chest up to the stick, hips rising off the floor.
  2. Keep the knees bent and the feet planted.
  3. Lower until the arms are straight again.

Common mistakes

Chairs tipping inward: use heavy chairs and pull straight up. Standing up with the legs: the feet anchor; the arms and back lift. Stick bending under load: test it first.

Breathing

Exhale on the pull, inhale on the way down.
