Pull-Up (Assisted)

In the assist machine, where the counterweight carries a set share of the bodyweight.

Pull-Up (Assisted), illustrated

How to do it

Setup

Knees or feet on the assist pad, overhand grip a little wider than shoulders, arms long.

Steps

  1. Start the pull from the shoulder blades.
  2. Chin over the bar, elbows to the ribs.
  3. Lower all the way to long arms.

Common mistakes

Too much assist forever: reduce it a plate at a time; the goal is the bar. Kipping off the pad: strict, quiet reps. Cutting the bottom: full hang builds the strength you came for.

Breathing

Exhale on the pull, inhale lowering.
