Plank Shoulder Tap

From a high plank, tap the opposite shoulder in turn; the hips must not rock.

Plank Shoulder Tap, illustrated

How to do it

Setup

HIGH plank on straight arms, feet wider than usual, body one line.

Steps

  1. Lift one hand and tap the OPPOSITE shoulder.
  2. Keep the hips dead level through the tap.
  3. Return the hand and switch sides.

Common mistakes

Hips rocking side to side: the anti-rotation IS the exercise; wider feet, slower taps. Rushing: a slow tap is worth three fast ones. Sagging between taps: the plank holds throughout.

Breathing

Exhale on each tap.
